Muncie-area school superintendents say a new property tax law will reduce funding for public schools by requiring them to share local tax money with charter schools—Muncie Community Schools has cut costs by bringing maintenance staff in-house, saving about $1 million per year.

These measures come as districts look for ways to manage falling resources while planning for future budget challenges.

Labor Day falls on Monday, Sept.
