- ➤ Applications for the Muncie Firefighters Toys for Tots program began on Oct. 27; Delaware County families with children 12 and younger who get government assistance must book appointments by calling for either Nov. 3 to 7 or Nov. 10 to 14—proof of eligibility is required. Star Press
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A 1990s TV show called Eerie, Indiana mixed spooky fiction with a real debate over daylight saving time when young Marshall Teller complained about losing an hour and his father explained that farmers said clocks confuse cows—some locals even believe the eerie town was inspired by Muncie. Indiana began observing daylight saving time in 2005 and will set clocks back at 2 a.m. Nov. 2. Star Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. will end Daylight Saving Time on Nov. 2 when clocks fall back one hour at 2 a.m.—Indiana will observe the change along with most states. Lawmakers continue debating whether to make the time change permanent as discussions move forward. Star Press

- ➤ Yorktown volleyball rallied from a 2-1 deficit in a five-set match on Oct. 25—earning their second straight regional title and advancing to the semistate tournament. They will face Floyd Central in Martinsville on Nov. 1 in the 4A South semistate contest. Star Press
- ➤ Voters can now choose the high school Athlete of the Week for Oct.20-25—sponsored by IU Health—by casting their ballots in a poll open until noon ET Friday, Oct.31. The poll features 10 nominees from cross country, football and tennis, with last week’s winner Kynlie Keffer receiving 7,948 votes. Star Press
