🎓 Education
Local schools—including Muncie Community Schools—received over $1 million from the state Secured School Safety Grant Program to upgrade resource officer support, warning systems, and other safety measures.
The funding is part of a $27 million state investment allocated to 494 schools statewide.
🏈 Sports
A poll remains open for voters to choose the IU Health Football Player of the Week as six high school nominees are recognized for their game-winning performances, including Delta running back Aven Thomas + who scored four touchdowns in a 27-20 win over New Castle.
Votes close at noon Friday.
Delta's boys tennis team won its 33rd straight sectional title by beating Yorktown 5-0 on Oct.
2—Freshmen helped the Eagles complete a 17-2 season, and they will face Westfield at Regional 14 on Oct. 7. Jay County and New Castle also secured their fourth straight titles and will move on to their next rounds.
Voters can choose the Star Press IU Health Athlete of the Week for Sept.
29-Oct. 4 from how standout athletes in East Central Indiana performed in sports like volleyball, soccer, cross country and tennis. The poll is open until noon Friday — votes must be cast online since email entries will not count.
