COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Muncie will host the 13th annual Soup Crawl on Thursday, Oct. 2 from 5 to 8 p.m., co-hosted by PrimeTrust Federal Credit Union and Second Harvest Food Bank to raise funds for Second Harvest’s Big Idea initiative—tickets cost $25 or a hand-thrown ceramic bowl may be purchased instead. Check-in is at Walnut and Charles and Walnut and Jackson—participants receive a map, spoon and a chance to vote for best soup.  Star Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Greater Muncie Habitat for Humanity at 1420 S. Hoyt Ave will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, Sept. 29 for the new Gateway Gathering Space public artwork designed by Greg Mueller. The event will begin at 4 p.m. and include remarks by Mayor Dan Ridenour, MuncieArts executive director Tania Said and Habitat for Humanity CEO Lindsey Arthur — part of a $500,000 public art initiative creating a welcoming space at the West Eighth and South Hoyt Ave intersection.  Star Press

  • The Star Press is covering week 6 high school football games today—featuring local matchups such as Wes-Del versus Monroe Central in the Harvest Helmet Classic and Muncie Central hosting Richmond—as teams across East Central Indiana vie to improve their records.  Star Press
  • After a 1-3 start, Ball State football is using its bye week to help players recover and boost its offense and defense, with running back Qua Ashley showing strong performance. The team will prepare today for their first MAC game against the Ohio Bobcats next week — a schedule that gives them an extra rest advantage.  Star Press
  • High school football games on Friday, Sept. 26, ended with varied scores in the Muncie area and across Indiana, with teams like Muncie Central scoring 54 and Delta 27+ many matchups showing close contests statewide.  Star Press
  • Ball State football coach Mike Uremovich held a postgame press conference after the Cardinals won against New Hampshire as running back Qua Ashley and linebacker Jack Beebe discussed game highlights — they said the win builds momentum for upcoming matches.  Star Press
