EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A former Ball State University staff member sued the school after she was fired last week for a private Facebook post criticizing Charlie Kirk—she claims her First Amendment rights were violated. The ACLU supports her as the lawsuit, filed on Sept. 22, moves forward in the U.S. District Court of the Southern District. Star Press
- ➤ Yorktown High School principal Stacey Brewer said online videos showing students urinating and acting lewd on school property were unacceptable — police chief Kurt Walthour said the student responsible was recently identified and school officials addressed the behavior by alerting parents to review their child's social media activity. - ➤ The Star Press invites readers to vote for the IU Health Athlete of the Week for Sept. 15 to 20—nominees show strong play in golf, soccer, tennis, volleyball, and cross country with current champion Auden Hummel leading wins against Monroe Central and Hagerstown; the poll will remain open until noon Friday for local fans to choose their standout athlete. - ➤ A poll to choose the IU Health Football Player of the Week is open until Friday, Sept. 26 at noon – voters can select from six nominees including reigning winner Caleb Hummel, who scored three touchdowns to help Winchester beat Centerville 28-19.
