EDUCATION NEWS

  • South View Elementary opened a new playground for children ages 5 to 12 that is built to last—its $226,000 grant provided swings, slides, climbing areas, ramps and mobility aids for students with disabilities. The upgrade is part of ongoing improvements in Muncie Community Schools.  Star Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delaware County commissioners issued an emergency burn ban on Wednesday due to severe drought conditions, prohibiting campfires, open burning of brush, timber and debris to reduce wildfire risks. The ban remains in effect until 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30 unless lifted sooner by volunteer fire chiefs — local law enforcement may enforce the measures.  Star Press

  • Restaurants in Indiana offer free birthday treats and discounts this week for customers with September birthdays—loyalty programs give access to free desserts, drinks, or meals.  Star Press
  • Today is National Cheeseburger Day and Indiana restaurants are offering special deals on burgers. Specials include free burgers at Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers for rewards members spending $10 plus discounted burgers at McDonald’s, Ruby Tuesday, and others—some offers last through Sept. 21.  Star Press
