CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Mayor Dan Ridenour's office and the Muncie Arts and Culture Council announced more than 20 nominees for the 2025 Mayor’s Arts Awards that celebrate our city's vibrant arts scene, and the ceremony will be held on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. at Muncie Civic Theatre (216 E. Main St.). Star Press

- ➤ Ball State University is reviewing social media posts by two employees about the killing of Charlie Kirk as officials gather more information to determine appropriate discipline—administrators said the posts did not reflect campus values, a suspect was arrested, and a local official resigned over similar comments. - ➤ Indiana public servants including Brian Lamb, Lee Hamilton, Richard Lugar and William D. Ruckelshaus earned the Presidential Medal of Freedom—the highest civilian honor—for their work in journalism, government and environmental protection. Star Press

- ➤ Data from Zumper shows that median apartment rents in Muncie increased from $889 last August to $906 in August with many listings holding at around $900. One-bedroom rents rose from $675 to $700 while two-bedroom rents edged up from $875 to $900 — both remaining far below higher state and national medians. Star Press

- ➤ High school football teams in Muncie and across the state posted their scores on Sept. 12—local results include Elwood beating Blackford 49 to 8 and Muncie Central losing 14 to 42, with state matchups showing many close contests. - ➤ Yorktown football defeated Delta on Friday, Sept. 12 by a score of 45-7 in its historic win. The Tigers gained 487 yards and improved to 3-1 ahead of their home opener next week. Star Press
