- ➤ Girl Scouts of USA introduced the Exploremores Girl Scout Sandwich Cookie inspired by rocky road ice cream—its sale will begin in early January 2026 as it joins Thin Mints and Samoas to support local programs. Star Press
- ➤ Tickets are now available from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Muncie for the Great Futures Dinner, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 9 at the Ball State University Alumni Center—tickets cost $30 and proceeds will support programs for local Club kids. Star Press
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Professor Shireen Kanakri of Ball State University has received a $266,028 NSF grant to lead a three-year study on how daylight affects children with autism and was named a Fulbright specialist for her work in designing inclusive spaces. The project will test real-world light conditions with advanced sensing tools—aiming to create new guidelines for schools and therapy centers. Star Press
- ➤ Indiana reported very high COVID viral levels at 26 wastewater sites by the week ending Aug. 30, while CDC data showed that variant XFG remains most common and variant NB.1.8.1, which causes a razor blade throat symptom, accounts for 14% of cases. Health and Human Services announced on Aug. 27 that COVID vaccines will only be approved for high-risk individuals and those over 65—though medical groups still recommend vaccines for children and pregnant women. - ➤ Yorktown’s junior Wyatt Turner won the boys race and freshman Auden Turner won the girls race at the Delaware County Cross Country Championships—Wyatt set a new meet record as their coach Jared Turner said he was speechless and the teams swept the county titles for the second year. Star Press
