COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fox and Sparrow in downtown Muncie is hosting a flash sale today from 1 to 8 p.m. at 304 S. Walnut St. with 50% of proceeds supporting ARF and tattoos costing $80 for outlines and $120 for black and gray or colored designs; owners Samantha and Joshua Chatwin—who opened the shop last year after raising over $2,000 from 82 tattoos at their grand opening—hope to boost funds for the local animal rescue.  Star Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A free documentary titled Counted Out — Math is Power will be shown at Muncie Central High School at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 15, and it is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters and the American Association of University Women Muncie Branch with an introduction and Q&A session led by Ball State University professor Andrew Gatza.  Star Press
  • Wes-Del High School honored strength coach Brandon VanMatre as homecoming grand marshal during a 42-0 victory over Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian on Sept. 5. Diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in July, VanMatre—known for his determined run headfirst into the storm mindset—continues his chemotherapy while inspiring a tight-knit school community.  Star Press

  • Ball State will face Auburn tonight at Jordan-Hare Stadium—as ESPNU airs the game live at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Cardinals are heavy underdogs after a 31-0 loss at Purdue in their season opener.  Star Press
  • The Star Press is covering week three high school football games in East Central Indiana with live score updates—Wes-Del hosts Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian for its homecoming game after a break—and other local teams start conference play on the road.  Star Press
  • Yesterday, many high school football games were played in our area and across Indiana. In Muncie, Adams Central beat Muncie Central 41 to 13 (other teams posted wins, shutouts and close scores) as the action unfolded in a busy day of competition.  Star Press
