Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 7th of August.
Good morning, Muncie.
Three influential men named George Ball shaped our local history as a brave patrolman, a leading industrialist, and a figure whose descendants became key in law, medicine and politics in Muncie — though no close family ties connected them.
Local historian Chris Flook noted these distinct roles help clear up years of mixed records.
A federal appeals court ruled on August 5 that Indiana's state law requiring a 25-foot buffer between on-duty officers and bystanders is unconstitutionally vague because it might let officers arrest people for simply approaching for directions, and further proceedings will decide if the law is fully blocked.
A letter to the editor from Muncie resident Scott Thompson reveals that his grandfather, Oral—a captain in the Indiana National Guard—shot himself at the Muncie armory with a .45-caliber pistol on Dec.
27th, 1932 due to financial struggles. Thompson discovered the suicide note in an old family scrapbook and calls for support for Suicide Prevention Month.
