FINANCE NEWS

  • Social Security recipients in Indiana may get a 2.7% COLA in 2026 based on recent inflation data — but rising Medicare Part B premiums will jump 11.6% to $206.50, which could use most or all of the COLA for those with lower benefits — leaving less extra money for other expenses.  Star Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city announced that starting Aug. 1, horse and ATV trails on the west side of Prairie Creek Reservoir will be closed to the public—campsite and dock transfers will also end to help preserve the reservoir's water quality.  Star Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Eric Wolfe, a Kansas family physician and father of three, fell ill during the Muncie IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon on July 12—water safety personnel pulled him from Prairie Creek Reservoir and transferred him to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital—where he remains on life support and is not expected to survive.  Star Press

  • Former Yorktown baseball star Jacob Pruitt — a right-handed pitcher who played at Indiana State and Mississippi State — was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 15th round of the MLB Draft on July 14. He was chosen with the 461st overall pick after a high school career that earned him multiple honors.  Star Press
