- ➤ City officials closed the beach at Prairie Creek Reservoir because tests showed high microcystins from blue-green algae. The reservoir will undergo algae treatment—starting Monday, June 30—until tests confirm the water is safe. Star Press
- ➤ Indiana law allows consumer fireworks from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. unless local ordinances state otherwise—on holidays like Fourth of July the allowed hours extend to midnight. Fireworks can only be set off on private property with an adult present, and violations such as unsafe use or unauthorized sales can lead to fines or jail time—residents are urged to follow strict safety guidelines and buy from reputable dealers.
