Mike Lunsford was given the 2025 David Sursa Leadership Award by the Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County for his long service at the YMCA of Muncie, where he helped guide a $30 million campaign for a new facility.
He also volunteered on several boards (like United Way and Meridian Health Services) to support local efforts.
The Joann store at 1625 W.
McGalliard Road in Muncie will close permanently by May 30th as it offers art and craft supplies discounted 70 to 90% off. A representative of GA Group said the closing may extend to May 31—leaving no Joann stores in operation after May.
Muncie police arrested 22-year-old Daishaun Savontae Daye on suspicion of attempted murder after he said on May 1 he would shoot the driver of a white Ford Escape during a road rage incident near Sixth and Beacon streets—he was taken into custody on May 21 and is held with a $65,000 bond with extra charges including pointing a firearm, criminal recklessness and false informing.
Muncie Downtown Development Partnership will host Brink of Summer ArtsWalk on June 5 with events including the DWNTWN IDOL competition, a Steamroller Print Event, and Flower Hour—tickets for Flower Hour cost $20.
The DWNTWN IDOL elimination rounds will take place during the event—followed by additional rounds on Aug. 2 and a finale on Oct. 2.
At Muncie Central, Yorktown’s girls team won its first sectional title in four years on May 20 and the boys team earned its first title in nine years on May 22 when Daniel Davis won three races.
Winchester’s Carter Campbell qualified for regionals in all four events and Wapahani’s runners did well in distance events — several local athletes earned spots to compete at IHSAA Regionals.
