COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City officials will host an open house at the new Muncie Crisis Center at 809 W. Eighth St. on May 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting scheduled for 11:30 a.m., and the center aims to offer support for people facing mental health or addiction crises with help from Meridian Health Services.  Star Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Muncie Scholar House, started in 2024 at Ball State’s Scheidler Apartments, gives single parents stable housing, coaching, and child help—enabling them to finish college while caring for their children. The program, part of a national Family Scholar House network, has served 31 local families and plans to expand its housing options as demand grows.  Star Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Delta baseball beat Cowan by a score of 16 to 3 on May 16 to advance to the county championship while weather paused the game between Yorktown and Daleville in the second inning with Yorktown leading 1 to 0. The suspended game will resume today at 1:30 p.m.—the championship is set for 5:30 p.m.  Star Press
  • Cowan High School named Chris Van Pelt as its new boys basketball head coach on May 15—he replaces Aaron Groves, who retired after five seasons. Van Pelt, who coached at Yorktown, Delta, and Knightstown, said he is excited to work with returning players and build on Cowan's basketball legacy.  Star Press
