The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County named five local nonprofit leaders as finalists for the annual David Sursa Leadership Award on May 15.

The finalists include Jeffrey Heavilon, Kourtney McCauliff, Jeff Tingler, Douglas White and Katherine White, with the award recipient to be named later this month.

The Cantio, a new boutique hotel and dining facility at Ball State, has chosen experienced hotel leader John Gilbertson as its general manager.

He brings over 25 years of experience and will oversee operations before the winter opening, featuring 97 guest rooms & three dining options.

Muncie Central High School ran Next Gen Academy, an eight-week program that gave eight students hands-on experience in public safety careers including modern policing and forensics.

The program — developed by police officer Arin Phillips and local partners — builds a pipeline for future local public safety jobs.
