- ➤ Nominations are open for the biennial Mayor’s Arts Awards recognizing local artists, educators, and cultural leaders — nominees must contribute significantly to Muncie’s arts scene. The nomination period ends on Sept. 1 at 11:59 p.m. — the awards ceremony will be held on Sept. 19 at Muncie Civic Theatre. Star Press

- ➤ Daleville teacher Maleah Parrish was honored with the Ball Brothers Foundation’s Excellence in Teaching Award for her creative, hands-on lessons at Daleville Elementary School—she has built a classroom that uses outdoor learning and interactive activities to engage first-grade students. The award provides grants for her district, school, classroom, and professional development, and she plans to use part of the funds for training in Kagan Structures. Star Press

- ➤ Timothy Hollems, a master commissioner with nine years of service, is running for judge of Delaware Circuit Court 5 to succeed Judge Thomas Cannon Jr. who is not expected to seek re-election in May 2026—Hollems also worked as an attorney for Indiana Department of Child Services for over 10 years. - ➤ Ball State catcher McKayla Timmons swept the MAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors on May 7—marking the end of her standout career in Muncie as she led in key stats. - ➤ Delta and Yorktown high schools held their 13th annual SmashCancer tennis match on May 6 where Delta won 4-1 and raised a record-breaking $23,000—$24,000 to support cancer organizations and families. - ➤ Delta High School baseball beat conference rival New Palestine 1-0 on May 7 after senior pitcher Zane Cline threw six innings with three hits, three walks, and nine strikeouts while the Eagles’ defense held the Dragons scoreless.
