- ➤ Doug Walker, a longtime Star-Press reporter, won two awards on Friday night from the Indy chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists for investigative reporting on drug sentencing differences in Indiana counties + for breaking news on a tornado damaged Winchester church. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dave Heeter was reappointed to the Muncie Community School Board by the Ball State University Board of Trustees, and he has served since 2018 when the university began collaborating with the district—Heeter, a 1983 Ball State graduate and former bank executive, played a key role as the board noted improvements in enrollment, finances and teacher retention. Separately, the trustees approved an $8.8 million project to build new clubhouses for the baseball and softball teams, with construction set to begin this fall and finish by Summer 2026. Star Press
