CULTURE NEWS

  • Comedian Tommy Davidson will headline a Mother’s Day comedy event in Muncie on May 10 at 6 p.m. at the Cornerstone Center for the Arts (520 E. Main St.) to honor moms and community figures.  Star Press
  • Minnetrista Museum & Gardens will host a free Garden Fair on May 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. and May 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering plants, landscaping tools, live music, art demos and food trucks for residents. Vendor applications for local artisans and growers remain open.  Star Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Indiana DNR confirms that native turtles will cross roadways in May, June, and July as they search for nesting sites and mates. The agency advises residents to let the turtles cross on their own (avoiding handling them improperly) since wild turtles make poor pets.  Star Press
  • Indiana DNR is proposing a new bobcat season harvest rule to increase the quota to 400 animals and allow hunting with firearms — a change aimed at reducing human-bobcat conflicts. Public comment is open through May 19.  Star Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • The city announced that the building at 809 W. Eighth St will be transferred to Muncie Mission in 2027 to become a no-cost clinic for community members — Meridian Health Services will continue running the crisis center through December.  Star Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ball State football will host its annual spring showcase at Scheumann Stadium on Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. Fans will see new transfers+ redshirt players compete for starting roles as the team finalizes plans for the upcoming season.  Star Press
  • Yorktown softball scored 12 runs in the first inning to secure a 12-2 run-rule win over Elwood on April 15. The Tigers remain undefeated at 6-0 as fresh players like Charlotte Childers gain valuable experience for tougher upcoming matchups.  Star Press
  • Purdue walk-on guard Aaron Fine committed to Ball State, returning to his childhood home under coach Chris Capko’s first roster with three seasons of eligibility remaining (his father coached at Muncie Central for 10 seasons).  Star Press
