EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Actress Kayla Davion, a 2017 Ball State graduate known for her Broadway work, will speak at the university’s spring commencement ceremony on May 3 starting at 10 a.m. in the Quad—followed by celebrations at Worthen Arena and Emens Auditorium as about 2,800 degrees are conferred—while she returns to guide students after making history as the first student to book a Broadway show before graduating. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lawmakers reworked Senate Bill 1 to limit property taxes by letting Hoosier homeowners claim a credit of up to $300 and by restricting local tax increases, allowing cities to set income tax rates, and requiring school districts to share funds with select charter schools. The House passed the measure April 10 by a vote of 65 to 29, and the Senate was scheduled to vote on it as early as Monday — if approved, it will move to Gov. Braun for review. Star Press
