SPORTS NEWS

  • Blackford boys basketball defeated Wapahani 49+39 Saturday at Eastbrook High School to secure its 13th sectional title. The Bruins will face the Lapel Bulldogs in the regional final on Saturday, March 14.  Star Press
  • Ball State fired men's basketball coach Michael Lewis on March 7 after four seasons that ended with a 12-19 record and an overall 61-64 performance (the team missed the MAC Tournament for the third straight season). A national search for his replacement will begin soon.  Star Press
  • Delta boys basketball clinched its fourth consecutive Sectional 24 title with a 56 to 48 win over Yorktown on Saturday, March 7 as Lucas Bragg scored 19 points, his season best. The Eagles will face Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian in the regional round on March 14.  Star Press
  • MAC tournaments begin soon as the women start on Wed, Mar. 11 at Rocket Arena and the men follow on Thu, Mar. 12 with Miami (Ohio) at the top; semifinals and championships take place Mar. 13-14 with games shown on ESPN+ and CBS Sports Network.  Star Press
