COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Five retired women known as the Merry Menders offer free alterations and repairs every Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Common Market (900 W. 8th Street), giving community members a chance to mend clothing and share stories while donations help feed local students.  Star Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Delaware County commissioners voted last month to move the historic 1,000-pound courthouse bell near the downtown county building’s entrance. Forged in 1848 by George Coffin, the bell once tolled for court sessions and called Munsonians together for major events.  Star Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Muncie and Delaware County leaders offered a positive economic forecast on March 5 at a breakfast event at Horizon Convention Center. They cited job gains, new housing—599 units added in 2025 with 655 more planned—and potential drone testing and data center projects to boost local opportunities.  Star Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Selma Elementary is planning an accessible playground for children in Delaware County and still needs $40K to complete the $200K project. The school has secured $100K from local partners and county commissioners, and the community is helping through fundraising and volunteer work.  Star Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission permits bars & restaurants to serve drinks until 4 a.m. on Sunday, March 8 to make up for the lost hour when clocks spring forward at 2 a.m.  Star Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association named its all-state honorees for the 2025-26 girls basketball season yesterday, including the top Supreme 15 + teams for large, small, and underclass schools as chosen by a 20-coach panel. The selections highlight the best talent across the state.  Star Press
