COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ball State University's Board of Trustees approved the Village Green project on March 2, adding green space, public art, and pedestrian upgrades (at southwest corner of Martin Street and University Avenue) as part of its Village Revitalization Plan; design will finish this year and construction will begin spring 2027.  Star Press

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Vera Mae's Bistro closed its doors on Monday, March 2 after 25 years as a downtown landmark; owners Kent Shuff and Steve Fennimore said they will repurpose the space to help local entrepreneurs. The former dining favorite has been in operation since 1999.  Star Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ball State's pro day on Monday, March 2 in Muncie allowed defensive end Nathan Voorhis (a first-team All-MAC selection) to impress scouts with a 37-inch vertical jump, a 40-yard dash and pass coverage skills. He now awaits his chance in April's NFL Draft.  Star Press
  • Help celebrate local high school talent by voting for the IU Health Athlete of the Week — the poll featuring standout nominees from Feb. 23 to 28 remains open until noon Friday.  Star Press
  • Today, local high schools in East Central begin the IHSAA boys basketball sectionals with games underway across several venues. Winners will move on to the regionals scheduled for Saturday, March 7 as the tournament unfolds.  Star Press
