- ➤ Nominations for Delaware County’s 2026 ViVA Awards are open until March 1 to honor local volunteers (nominees must show clear community service). Up to four individuals, one organization, and a Lifetime Achievement Award winner will be recognized at the 32nd Award Luncheon on April 14 (details provided by the Rotary Club). Star Press
- ➤ Betty Louise Harrah, a Navy veteran and former Ball State official, will soon celebrate her 100th birthday and a centennial celebration is planned for early March in Muncie. Family members are traveling to honor her life and share her favorite chocolate cake. Star Press
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Ball State University is accepting proposals for its Community Engagement for the Arts Grant that offers up to $35,000 to nonprofit and public arts projects in East Central Indiana, with submissions due by 5 p.m. Mar. 27. Star Press
- ➤ Muncie's historic Masonic Temple, now home to Cornerstone Center for the Arts, celebrated its 100th anniversary on Feb. 19 and will screen a documentary about its past on March 19 at the Illuminate the Arts celebration (tickets required). Star Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Delaware County's historic 178-year-old courthouse bell (cast in Cincinnati in 1848) was moved on Feb. 19 from its longtime display outside the former justice center to the plaza outside the county building after county commissioners voted unanimously to award a $22,000 contract to the Jennings family.
